I hacked my way around to the opposite side of The Tower yesterday. This job took most of the day; the sun was setting behind me when I finished. I had not recalled how steeply the hill fell away behind The Tower, almost a cliff now. The bottom of the gorge is completely hidden by clouds, I estimate two or three thousand feet down. I wanted to rig a rope and make my way around behind The Tower and examine how badly its base has been exposed by the crumbling hillside, but did not have the energy. I returned to my campsite, built a fire, cooked my supper and slept.
