Spent yesterday moving the brush I'd cleared around The Tower. The structure appears sound, but I'm afraid there's going to be erosion in the stones around the base, particularly on the East side where the cliff falls away. Today I rigged ropes to enable movement around the cliff side in order to conduct a closer inspection. The descent was easy enough, and, as I had feared, the stones showed some erosion. Since each stone is carved with various scripts -the inscriptions on the base being in antique languages- the degree of deterioration is pretty easy to see. On the other hand, the inscriptions in the base are deeper, and as one ascends the tower the writing becomes cruder and shallower. Now that I know The Tower is still basically sound, though, I can address the question of getting inside.....
